Roundtable Discussion Advocates for Midwifery Profession at National Press Club

A roundtable discussion was held at the National Press Club to advocate for the midwifery profession. During the meeting, the BMS team highlighted the vital role midwives play in reducing C-sections and lowering maternal and newborn mortality rates, particularly through their seamless services in remote areas of Bangladesh.

The team emphasized the need for support from civil society and other relevant stakeholders to address the issue of unemployed midwives by ensuring their recruitment not only in government positions but also in private hospitals. They also called for policy-level roles for midwives and advocated for the further development of the midwifery program through enhanced education, training, and career development opportunities.

The event was well-covered by media outlets, with two TV channels (Mohona TV and Bangla Vision) and 15 newspapers, including Bhorer Kagoj, Dhaka Tribune, and Jaijai Din, reporting on the discussions.
